MATECO® ANTISTATIC is a mattress with high resistance to chemical attacks thanks to its PTFE (TEFLON) coated and antistatic glass fabric.

The MATECO® Antistatic is a specialized removable thermal insulation mattress exclusively engineered for hazardous industrial environments and ATEX zones (Explosive Atmospheres). Standard insulation materials can accumulate dangerous levels of static electricity through fluid friction within pipes. To counteract this, our antistatic jacket features a proprietary electrostatic dissipative (ESD) coating and an integrated grounding system. It successfully combines high-performance thermal retention with absolute pyrotechnic safety, preventing any risk of spark ignition around critical singular points such as valves, flanges, and heat exchangers operating in highly volatile sectors.

ATEX Compliance & ESD Engineering: Preventing Electrostatic Ignition

The core innovation of the MATECO® Antistatic lies in its ability to safely capture and channel static charges away from industrial equipment. In explosive atmospheres, a single electrostatic discharge can trigger a catastrophic event. This mattress is manufactured using a specialized conductive technical fabric that prevents surface charge accumulation.

The technical architecture is built strictly around HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) requirements:

  • Dissipative Outer Shell: The specialized fabric actively neutralizes static build-up caused by environmental factors or internal fluid dynamics.
  • Integrated Grounding Connection: Each jacket is equipped with a dedicated grounding strap or cable, allowing continuous electrical bonding with the plant’s earth network.
  • Thermal Core: Despite its conductive exterior, the inner core utilizes high-density insulating materials to prevent heat loss and maintain process temperatures efficiently.
  • Non-Combustible Profile: Engineered to resist high thermal loads while maintaining an inherently fire-resistant structure, ensuring zero contribution to ambient fire hazards.

Industrial HSE Benefits: Securing Hazardous Environments

Deploying the MATECO® Antistatic in your facility is a critical step in regulatory compliance and risk management. Uninsulated or improperly insulated singular points in chemical plants or grain silos are major blind spots for HSE managers. By choosing an inherently safe insulation solution, you drastically reduce the operational risk matrix of your facility.

Key operational and safety advantages include:

  • Elimination of Spark Risks: The grounding mechanism ensures that electrostatic voltage remains at zero, fully securing areas exposed to flammable gases, vapors, or combustible dust.
  • Strict ATEX Directive Alignment: Facilitates compliance with European directives regarding equipment used in explosive atmospheres, simplifying safety audits.
  • Safe Maintenance Operations: The removable insulation jacket allows technicians to perform rapid valve inspections without the risk of generating static sparks during the removal or re-installation process.
  • Energy Optimization in Danger Zones: Secures energy savings and prevents thermal bridges in areas where traditional metal cladding is deemed too risky or complex to install.

Custom Fit for Critical Fluid Networks and Valve Systems

To maintain a continuous electrical grounding path and optimal thermal efficiency, the jacket must perfectly mold to the equipment. The MATECO® Antistatic series is tailored to fit the exacting geometries of industrial pipework without using rigid, spark-prone metal fasteners. Our standardized sizing ensures immediate compatibility with your existing fluid control infrastructure while maintaining continuous ESD protection.

Grounded Insulation for 2-Way and 3-Way Valves

Valves in hazardous environments are prime locations for static generation due to the throttling of high-velocity fluids. Our antistatic jackets provide comprehensive coverage for both 2-way and 3-way valves. Ranging from compact DN15/20 setups to large-scale industrial diameters up to DN400, the covers wrap securely around the valve body. Crucially, the design allows actuators and control wheels to remain fully accessible, ensuring operators can make flow adjustments without breaking the antistatic shield or exposing themselves to thermal risks.

Static-Safe Covers for Flanges and Industrial Heat Exchangers

Flange joints and heat exchangers in petrochemical facilities often suffer from micro-leaks, creating a localized explosive atmosphere right at the equipment surface. Our antistatic flange covers (available from DN15 to DN250) create a secure, grounded envelope over the bolting. For thermal transfer equipment, our tailored heat exchanger mattresses (ranging from compact 380 x 610 mm units to massive 1130 x 1410 mm heavy-duty covers) ensure that thermodynamic efficiency is maximized while completely eliminating the risk of a surface-level electrostatic discharge igniting a surrounding chemical vapor cloud.

Standard insulation can build up static electricity through friction. In an ATEX zone (explosive atmosphere), a static spark can cause an explosion. Antistatic mattresses safely dissipate these charges, preventing any risk of ignition while maintaining thermal efficiency.
It is constructed with a specialized conductive technical fabric and features an integrated grounding connection. This allows any accumulated static electricity to be continuously and safely channeled into the plant’s earth grounding network.
Yes. Despite its grounding connections, the jacket remains fully flexible and removable. Technicians can safely detach the grounding strap, remove the jacket for valve inspection, and reinstall it securely without compromising ATEX compliance.
Antistatic insulation is mandatory in sectors handling highly flammable substances. This includes petrochemical refineries, oil and gas offshore platforms, pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical processing, and agricultural grain storage (where combustible dust is present).
Absolutely. While its exterior is designed for electrostatic discharge (ESD) prevention, its internal core utilizes high-density insulating materials to prevent heat loss, eliminate thermal bridges, and protect personnel from high-temperature burns.
